no, Makery isn’t a real word.
but you can bet your bottomest dollar it’s a real place and you’re welcome anytime.
Potty Mouth Makery was born, as many things were, in the pandemic and out of a desire to house my plants in beautifully crafted, abstract planter pots. Everywhere I looked I would find something sort of close to what I was envisioning but absolutely nowhere near my budget. If there was even a splish splash of color? $50. Cool design? $75. INSANITY, if you ask me and to further add insult to financial injury - the cooler the design and the more expensive the pot was, the less functional it typically became to house thriving plants. Often, these pots necessitating the addition of drainage holes and a custom mix of very aerated soil. Even so, nothing was quite right, aesthetically. Everything sort of looked the same, slight variations of one pot to the next.
So I began painting my own pots. I learned how to safely and effectively drill drainage holes, how to seal an aesthetic without compromising the porousness of the pot, and I ended up making some pretty incredible planters that I and many satisfied Etsy clients and friends are using to this day.
Most of the pots I sold were custom orders and custom orders are my absolute fave because it means collaborating with my clients and there are few things of which I enjoy more.
I have a big ole’ background in customer and team experience. My main goal is and has always been to turn an otherwise mundane, often even dreadful experience into a positive part of someone’s day. I love talking to people and I’m damn good at customer service because I sincerely do care about your experience and the reputation of the service I’m providing. I consider myself to be a very fair and logical person when it comes to business but I’ll never ignore an emotion attached to an experience, in fact I keep it top of mind in all my endeavors. All that to say - I knew I wanted to work with more people and to accomplish that I needed to expand to a larger demographic. Pots started as something just for me, anyway. It was time for growth.
And so here I am, sitting in my little home makery, surrounded by knicks and knacks, four 3d printers chug-a-luggin’ away. In the back right corner of the room there are several bins. A bin for clay, a bin for paint, a bin for resin, a bin for rhinestones, a bin for adhesives, a bin for candles, a bin for things that don’t have a bin. What I’m getting at here is - it’s more than just pots. It’s more than just 3d printing. It’s a makery. And it can be whatever the f*ck I want it to be because I made up the word so I’m pretty sure, LEGALLY, that does indeed indicate no holds barred. There are painted pots, there are dragons and fidgets and candle holders and wall art. There are earrings and curtains and necklaces and unique gifts and hand painted prints. Hopefully, there’s something for you, and everyone else.
Overall, the goal at PMM is to create products that evoke a sense of familiarity through abstraction and individuality. I love designing collections that make you say “wow I’ve never seen something quite like that before” while ensuring a uniformity that allows a ‘break the mold’ type product to fit right into the mold of your aesthetic.
Lastly, and most importantly, it’s imperative that my brand embodies kindness. There’s no more room in the world for nastiness and I truly hope every interaction we have leaves you on the best note possible.
With that, I welcome you to the makery. Kick your feet up, relax. Stay awhile.
